- 最大看点大概是相识数十年的文坛老友回忆往事、相互打趣。而节目组特意请了一位（自称）只爱读言情小说的90后女主持来“代表这一代年轻人的阅读趋向”，通过代际、性别、文化资本的三重阶序，成全了中年男性作家们自上而下的说教，也完成了对“这一代年轻观众”的询唤。第一集便开宗明义道“读青春文学并不可耻，但读经典更有营养”，以看似包容的精英姿态，向观众发出进化的邀请；到了最后一集，主持人不负众望地表示自己被几位老师教会了读好书的意义，西川还来了句“离开了阅读的精神世界几乎就很难说是精神世界了”，堪称首尾呼应式的升华。从流行文学/经典文学的趣味区隔，到“书外没有精神世界”的读书神教（而且还是一神论），仿佛一旦离开阶层化与神圣化的修辞就没法聊书了。
